Well, i think in some posts i mention i wanted to put my turtles outside for the summer on a kiddie pool.So Last week i went ahead to a store and got one,its kind of big i think it holds like 450 gallons,that way thought my turtles would love it there.

The basking spot is where i was having a hard time ti figure out, so i found this stuff outside that could do the job.
It takes some time to fill the pool,i may have fill it half full,last weekend i wen tout to a party.The next day i checked outside and the pool is drained already laying under a table.I'm like what the....

Next i told my mom and she said my dad did it because since i place it over the grass which it could cause a fire or something like that.Still not buying that,because the first day i told em i got a pool.They throw me in with the Why you keep wasting money on those turtles?talk.
I still have it,but problably i should get a smaller one or i dont know.I have a chance to keep my turtles healthier than in the inside and they blew it.
Or what do you think?.

Sorry to hear that. I had my RES out today in a kiddie pool too, but it was one of those preformed plastic ones... probably about 60-75 gallons. Did you want to use this all summer long? I think most of us who use kiddie pools only use it for parts of the day since they are not known for durability or stability.

Wow, sorry to hear about that. It's tough living under someone else's roof sometimes (but you do get a free place to live and free food ). Maybe try to see if you can work something out with your dad before you set it up to see what would be acceptible to him. If you can reason calmly with him and he can see that you're will to be reasonable, you may be able to come up with a solution that's agreeable to both of you.

well i thought for the summer during the day until the evening or so and put them back in.
plus i kind of dont want it to be too shallow.

in the other hand, someone in another forum told me she put like a pipe attached to the pool,i guess for water cleaning.

so i dont know,everyon has their own kind of setup and the summer is still not over.

The kind of pool I used last summer was 6 feet around and I could fill it to 10 inches deep. 10 inches isn't deep compared to a real pond but it really isn't bad. Check out the depth of the water in your aquarium and you'll see how deep 10 inches is. Anyway, the point is this little pool only cost $10. You had to blow it up, but it held air pretty well and I only had to blow it up again every couple of weeks. Maybe something like that would be small enough that your parents would be comfortable with it. And, maybe after they get comfortable with the idea they will be ok with your going ahead with the big pool.

Hmm, I don't think the pool will start a fire on the grass, but it will definitely kill the grass underneath. Maybe that's what your parents meant.

Well, the pool I used last summer definitely killed the grass underneath. If you could move it around every week or so, or just use it a few days a week, and the rest of the time keep it off the grass, then it would be ok.

last summer I had small preformed kiddie pool that I go at petsmart and I would put it on our picnic table, like one of those round cheap plastic ones. then if I needed to move it I could and it didn't kill the grass under it. but I did only have him outside for a few hours at a time.

well good news..sorta...I got a smaller pool and recently placed my turtles outside..Now i guess whats left is that they will be incline to bask..They've been missing out big time.

Right now the temp its 42C.

I have read several posts here about RES and swimming pools.

I figured the clorine would be harmful to a RES.

I have an in-ground pool and a 5" female RES, but I haven't allowed her into the pool at all. Frankly, I never considered it until I read these 'pool posts'.

People aren't adding chlorine to these wading pools that they are using for their turtles. After you add the water, you can let it stand for a day and the chlorine that comes in treated water will evaporate.

yea or i used an anti-chlorine solution..Just a few drops.

I miss seeing them on the pool,but then again the summer is over..they were fun times.
