Spitting water from nose?

When Liza (9" penn cooter) eats she tends to shoot water out of her nose as she's swallowing...especially if it's a large piece of food she's trying to get down. She does dip her head under to begin swallowing, but tends to finish w/ head above water level (already looking for that next bite, LOL) and I've seen water shoot several inches away.

Has anyone else seen this?

Yeah, Turtley "spits" on me all the time when i'm feeding him. Just like you said, it's always when he's just swallowed a pellet and is coming up for another. Greedy little things, aren't they? No manners at all!

Turtles smell underwater by pulling water through their mouth and expelling it through their nose or vice versa, by pumping their jaw, which you can clearly see.
When they eat, they expell excess water out too.

Mine RES does it quite frequently. It's partially due to their anatomy.
