Hi, I was just wondering if it was possible to dry your own crickets and if It would still be good for my red eared slider. I know you can buy crickets at the pet store live and dead but they are pretty expensive and I live in a small town without a pet store anyways. There are plenty of fields around to catch my own and I would like to know if theres someway I can keep them to feed throughout the year. I appreciate any insight you have to offer!

As far I know, they are not very nutritious... but it's exciting for your turtle to catch a live one. So drying your own to is not worth it IMO. You can breed live ones, you can also buy some preserved/pre cooked crickets to use as treats.

Alright! thanks a lot. I won't bother then. Just trying to think of different ideas to change up the diet a bit. Like most RES he loves any food I give him so much that I guess his pellets will continue to be like treats!

Look into the canned mini crickets. The occasional minnow is a good treat.

Try frozen krill for a snack. They have large ones at petco. My turtles love them but like you said what don't they love!
