Feeding and Nutrition :: How old is my RES?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I just got a red eared slider turtle and I'm trying to determine her age. I go her at a tiny shop in Chinatown, so I'm assuming she's been in the tiny carrying case I took her home in for the majority of her life. I've already found out her sex, now I'm trying to figure out her age. She's about 1.5 inches wide. Any info would be very much appreciated!

Too many different variables involved , food , genes etc... I would say ( RES 1.5") it is around 1 yr to maybe 1 1/2 years old. At that size a regular dog vet could not tell the sex. It would be hard for a Herp Vet to tell? Hope it is a girl , but I would give it a neutral gender name just in case. Adult female RES get about 12" in size and can live over 40 years. She will be adult size long before that 40 year mark.

1.5" might be even younger, I would estimate it at 3-6 months, especially if you got her in CHinatown. Many of those are poorly kept and don't live long.
