I just went a purchased a 3oz container of the ultra fine calcium. I want to get the one with vitamins too. What is a good ratio to have with food. I'm making my own turtle food with red leaf and green leaf lettuce, uncooked peeled shrimp and carrots. 2 heads of lettuce, 500g of carrots and 500g of shrimp.

Does the Rep Cal also have any Vitamin D3? Pellets contain roughly 2.0% calcium.

See most stick to 1/2 tablespoon per pound of food. Also I was told they have two kind with D-3 for indoor turtles and without D-3 for outdoor. I was told if I tried it don't mess up I could hurt an outdoor turtle if given with the D-3 would be too much with the sun. I know you know that but I did not at the time we were talking about it.

I was shopping around Amazon and I found the calcium powder without D3. I have an indoor turtle so I made sure I got the right one. Is it possible to give them too much? Say a full teaspoon. What happens to them with excess amounts?

Sorry maybe you just miswrote ? "I found the calcium powder without D3 for your indoor turtle" . Without is for turtles outdoors with natural SUN they get enough from the sunrays. Idea of adding D3 supplement are for indoor turtles with only a UVB light. Lets face it a lot UVB bulbs out there are trash ! Minimal output at best. Unlike a mega ray's output ! Please re check ! Please.

I have heard that to much calcium can mess with a turtles kidney's , can mess up internal balance. Since no two turtles are alike no one will give an good answer to the dosage. Only companies selling it saying use it and most of there dosages are very small. Sometimes not all products , new tec , ... is true progress and or good. To (me) nothing like a well balanced diet for health. There are pro and cons on calcium / D3 supplement usage online that I found , I always read both sides. I look in general online for any reviews not just company reviews. I see that some just don't like the company got it from or got the wrong one ( with /without) and give a bad review , so I watch the words used in reviews. Times reviews don't help ! That's why I do my homework , your decision good luck.

I meant to say I saw the calcium without and saw there were two different types, I purchased the calcium WITH D3. I'm getting the herptivite in tomorrow. I've got a zoo med repti sun 10.0 as a source of my uvb

That's Great ! Doing your homework always good.

I know Turtle Source use's Rep Cal themselves and I think they are good with turtles. May want to call them and ask there dosage. Always answered questions I had.

Zoo med repti sun 10.0 a good one too.

Does she need to be exposed to uvb the entire time in the tank, or only when she's basking? How do I tell if she is getting enough calcium and uvb?

I keep on a timer 10 hours in winter and 12 hours UVB in summer if they bask or not and for me this always worked! Most senior turtle keepers use about the same time of UVB. And some give outside real sun too as a treat. Just a note : Sure you know UVB will not penetrate a glass window or a glass top. That was for any new members that may be reading this.

My UVB and UVA goes off for night time , I keep day / night cycle. Yes I have a heater in the water. (75* water temp)

I keep my timers on a 12/12 rotation. At night I use an eco terra 75w inferred heat lamp. The lid is a DIY wire mesh cover that is angled enough where she will not have any contact with the metal.

Sounds like what I did when I used glass tanks , it's good. Using Rubbermaid tubs now didn't like at first but several years latter will never go back to glass. I like DIY and I could / can do so much more with the tubs !

Mike, your turtle will get UVB when he basks. You might want to be a little conservative with Rep Cal because you will be offering other foods that have calcium. Their directions also seem like its for dusting which is not an efficient way to supplement aquatic turtles. Why the heat lamp at night? No submersible heater?

She has 2. A tetra fauna heater on the opposite side of where the ramp to her basking area is, there is also one at the ramp near the water circlulation pump. I just thought I'd spoil her a bit with the night lamp. I'm hoping with my frozen food she will be able to get the right amount.
