Feeding and Nutrition :: Is cuttle bone actually good for turtles?

I bought some cuttle bone at the store because I heard it was good for turtles. It is so hard! I heard some people say you have to take the hard covering off....Is it soft underneath? Won't it get stuck in them like rocks if it hard all the way through? I was hoping someone could give a couple details on cuttle bone before I go feeding it to my dudes. Thanks!

The hard part is on the back, the part you have to peel off. The rest of it may appear hard, but it actually quite soft...you can dig your nail into it without any problems. Break it into head sized pieces and drop it in. They may not go for it right away, but give them some time.

The vet I talked to awhile back also said bird vitamins were good...
They are fruit falovered little things...they look like dry cat food.

I don't know if that's a recommened thing to feed the little guys though. You could check it out though?
