I am planing to bring my Eastern Painted (she is 9 mo.'s old) in for the winter. She is in a summer pond which is about 60 gal's now. I have a 55 gal tank for the winter months and need to get a good filter for it. Can anyone recommend one for me? Thank you.

No, it will not be too strong for a 55 gallon tank, plus you can upgrade your tank without upgrading the filter. Most filters are rated for fish, which have much less "waste," then turtles do, if you know what I mean. It is recommended that you get a filter rated for three times the size of the tank, but depending on how big your turtles are, I think the XP3 will do fine.

I want to buy a Rena XP3 for a mostly filled 75 gallon. I only have one turtle. Is that good enough?

Also, is the XP3 as good as people say it is? Of course I want good water circulation. Has anyone tried the Fluval 405?

I think they are similar, but the XP3 has a good reputation here. It's a bit easier to clean, more inexpensive and seems to not have the quality issues the Fluval has. Both are good products, but in my opinion, the Fluval requires more maintenance. I think either will be fine in a 75 gallon tank.

I just read on some post and to have the XP3 you have to have your tank filled up pretty much for it to work properly. Is this true. My turtles are pretty small, and I didn't want to fill it up to the top...just maybe 3/4. I didn't order it yet, but am thinking about it. Thanks

If your tank is on a stand, it's perfectly fine.
