So what do you thin about Zoo Med's Turtle Tuff™ Splash-proof Halogen Lamp ? I read some reviews but the results vary . will it last long like some people said or will it fail after 2days or 2 weeks. At the moment I use a exotera ceramic heat emitter and if had it for 4 and a half years and hasn't failed me once . is this bulb better than the zoo med one for heat and durability ? Thanks in advance

I use similar 50 watt ones from GE, so I'm tempted to give it a try because the prices have increased and they are harder to find. Those usually last 6-9 months, and the Turtle Tuff ones have a dismal 3-month warranty. They also show them with a standard and lock neck, but don't specify which one in their packaging.

So should I buy one because my ceramic does a fine job except there their more expensive . I don't want it blowin straight away as my dad doesn't understand why I(want to ) spend so much money :/

I've had bad luck with ceramic heat emitters. Halogens produce very nice, bright light and a lot of warmth. I would lean towards getting it though you can use regular incandescent bulbs if they are far away enough from the basking area.

And one last question , can my uvb reptisun .5 be too close to the turtle ?

Yes. New bulbs need a "burn in period" where they are far away from the turtle. I thought they had updated their instructions regarding distance?
