Since we just got our son his turtle, Hermes, about for months ago, I'm still learning. We are upgrading him/her to a 55 gallon tank Saturday. We are picking up a filter from the same gentleman that we are buying the tank from. It's a NEXX filter. I know nothing about brands, from the little I read on reviews online, it seems like a good brand. I've heard its expandable, which is a plus! Has anyone had any experience with these?

It's on our not recommended list for turtles. It doesn't hold enough bio media even when expanded and it takes proprietary filter cartridges.

Rena XP, Fluval FX 5/6, or the large eheim canisters are the forum favorites.

Is it free? That about what that filter is worth.

Thanks for the info!! I emailed the guy I'm looking at buying the filter off of with the list of recommended ones to see if he has any. Keeping fingers crossed he does and at a good price. Otherwise, I'll have to order one off of Amazon this weekend. :)
