Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

I have searched the site to see what others are using to clean the tubes on their canister filters. Didn't find anything unless I didn't hit key words. What is everyone using for this? If using some type of tool let me know where to get.

Also, FX5 - inlet strainer pipe size. any one know the size of this plastic pipe? need one as well as a strainer. outrageous prices I see all over for a piece of little plastic. any help here for a inlet strainer and pipe? Where to buy reasonable or making one?

Thanks all.

I have never cleaned my hoses. I guess you could run hot water through them. Have you looked on e-bay for the strainer?

Fluval hoses are ribbed, so it would be difficult to get them really clean. I think the pipe size is 3/4", but might not be a perfect fit. What about constructing your own inlet pipe? I plan on giving it try soon for my XP3 filters.

I clean my tubes with a long bristle brush sold to clean out tubes and rigged it up to an extended coat hanger so it's long enough to shove 1/2 way then I turn it around and do the other end. Works great :D

I saw someone post a plumbers snake kit that had bristles on the end. It was pretty cool. I will see if I can find the picture and post it :)

what I do is take my shower head off I have one of those ones with a hose stick it in the filter hose and turn it on really hot. I noticed if i squish the hose with my fingers all the gunk comes off and shoots out. I have been thinking of buying pipe cleaners though that seems like the best solution.

Pipe cleaners will be less stressful too. I've noticed that using a lot of force wears down the parts much quicker and I don't even remove the tubes for cleaning anymore.

I think I will try and find a brush and clean them for the first time this weekend. I figure all that gunk has to cause drag of some degree.
