I have scum on surface of 125 gallon tank. I have a very old ball type item but the cups are so worn and RES rips it off glass. Are there replacement suction cups to be found? what is best to keep this film off the water? something my RES wont remove from the glass? is there anything out there?
setup
125 ga tank
fluval FX5/6
2 250W heaters
bare bottom with some rocks to play with.
ATBA covering 2 of 3 openings.
thanks for feedback

Most suction cups can be replaced. You can even find magnets for aquariums but they are expensive. You don't use your filter to agitate the water surface?

I have the filter tubes going over te top of the tank to bottom. How would I use the filter to aggitate?

Return near the surface and point up so it just makes a ripple. That helps quite a bit.

When initially setting up I was told on forums to have the intake and exhaust at te bottom. Intake to pick up and exhaust to push the waste etc to inlet. Is there something I could put in outlet tubing on the FX5/6 tubes to work?

Did your filter come with a spray bar? You can also get a bubble wand or stone and an air pump to offer some agitation.

will need something that turtle wont remove from walls. FX5 did not come with anything like that wand or spray bar.

You can make your own... some people make them for the intakes as well which provides safety benefits for turtles.

I have the output nozzles about 6" deep and pointing upwards. You can also buy a circulation pump/wave maker but they are held on with suction cups. I use both methods.

That looks pretty good, do they need to be completely submerged?

I think so Steve. I'm on my second maxijet and thought I might try these next time. They are cheaper but I can't speak of longevity.

Good point, if my RES decide to play with it, it won't last very long.

That's not exactly what I mean. My maxijets impeller broke on its own. My turtles don't bother the maxi set up as a wave maker. They do move it at times but its not a problem. Not sure what large turtles would do?

I know, I'm thinking it's something cheap that my turtles will probably destroy if they chose to.
