Do I need to purchase any additional media or should I be good to go for this set up when it arrives?

It comes with sponges but I don't remember what else? It's bin a while... I would buy carbon and good ceramic rings. A cheap place for these is ebay/Amazon. I also use purigen but that's a personal preference.

Fluval came out with a new FX6 model. I wonder if you guys got the old or the new model?

I had to get mine for 2 different stores, one is an old design and the other is newer. I have not opened both yet to compare, but I can see that the older one has maintenance reminder dials on the top. Both the barcodes and item #s are the same as before. Both are made in Italy and have a 3 year warranty.

Awesome, looks like partial water changes should be much easier to do. Gravel vac option looks very well designed for those who get it.

A friend of mine was able to pick my filter up for me so I don't have to drive an hour and 45 minutes out of the way to go pick it up. Benefits of being friends with a charter bus driver I guess! lol!

by the looks of the picture he sent me compared to that video, I probably got the old model, but that's okay. I don't have gravel or sand in my tank. It's a bare bones set up right now. Even though I've had her for 6 years now, I still feel like too much of a "noob" to try any kind of plant set up. Perhaps when we have more permanent living arrangements and a little less student debt, I'll give it a go. lol!

Yea Steve, That water change system looks pretty sweet! Marie, Most turtles don't do well with plants but you might consider sand as a substrate someday.

Well I had no success securing a FX6 from Petsmart from Thursday morning until Friday at midnight. To prove my attempts I made screenshots the entire time. On Saturday I called Petsmart and explained to them what happened i.e. Unable to order and none in stock in the entire state. This seemed unlikely to me. When I explained this to the manager she was very cordial and found me one for $170. Oh it was the newer model. I'll post some pictures.

Very cool! It doesn't hurt to call :)

I wished I had them price match the one I found in store, but I was too excited that I found one and in a rush to get out of the store.

Me too, now I just got to work on getting a new tank. Would have to be custom, so it will be awhile.

Freakin' awesome! I didn't even notice that. Offer expires June 2017. I was a little concerned because the seal on the box was broken, but the card is in there. I might not have noticed it at all since I don't know when I'll set it up. Thanks!
