Well I inserted the hose into the top piece that hangs on the top of the tank, then used tubing to extend to what depth I wanted, and inserted the short outlet extension elbow into the tubing.

Then, I stole the inlet extension tube since I didn't need it and inserted that into the end of the outflow extension elbow, because it concentrated the flow a bit and gave more directional control.

Holy cow! That's an amazing idea!!!!!! I'm going to have to look and see if mine fit, we had to take out one extension per filter in order to prevent sand being sucked up, so we just have two extensions sitting around.

Thanks Chris!

I did it, you guys! I put sand in my tank. It looks great, but it's still pretty cloudy. When it's all cleared out I'll post pictures. Thanks SO much for the info everyone, and especially Chris!

The fluval xx4 and xx5 have a nice outlet, I'm not sure if it would fit the XP3 tubing. I just threw mine out last week, wish I didn't so I could scavenge some parts :)

I just added my spare XP3 pieces to the outtake and it worked wonderfully. Now, I don't have any sand being blown around. Thanks again, Chris.

Doesnt the norm al output of most filers incoluding the FX5 out put their water like that. Ive sene the nozzles on the FX5 and they point out like your tube does.

It depends, but in most cases yes, but not this extended. Adding the tube on the end gives very good directional flow control, and concentrates it a little bit, I find it helps a lot.
