Today, something freaked me out, like, A LOT! When I put Speedy, my male red eared slider, in his summertime kiddie pool, he was very relaxed, but this strange, long, very dark purple-y thing came out of his tail! I freaked out, since I thought it could be like a random organ or something, even though my first thought was that he was just going to the bathroom..

It turns out, with the help of many freaked owners' articles on the internet, I've come to confirm that it was his penis! Yeah, you heard me! It's called 'fanning', and there's an explanation on this website about it as well!

So, if this happens to your turtle, don't freak out. It's normal. Luckily, his.. you know... went back inside his tail, so that means he was just putting it out for display.

Has this ever happened to any of you?

"So, are you obsessed with turtles?"
"I would say so.."

I love when people see a turtle's genitals come out of their "peephole" and totally freak out like they have no idea what it is. And it seems to freak out the women on here the most, lol XD It's like, us girls don't have one of those so we don't understand it.

Exactly! It was quite freaky.. but it happened again today, once.
Idk, he's probably asking me to get him a girlfriend. (:

I have taken care of Gimli now for over 10 years and today is the first time I saw this... needless to say I was a tad grossed out. I guess I know he's happy, right??

I only wished I'd have read all this before this morning.. I saw my"girl" become a "boy" and totally freaked out thinking I needed to rush "her" to the vet because her stomach was trying to come out..

Good lord... talk about ewwww...

At least he has the name Skimmer so I can just replace "beautiful" with "handsome". = : >
