Yeah they always destroy the egg when they are laid in water (which they always are since she refuses to use the nesting box!). This is the first time I have ever gotten a whole egg out before they killed it! Raina was literally under Sylvie catching eggs and eating them as she laid them hahaha

I doubt they realize those are their own eggs. It's more like "Hey, shinny!". Those eggs are much larger than what I was expecting, how big are your girls?

The one that laid them is 9 inches. The one that ate them is 10 lol. My girls destroy anything new in the tank thats for sure. I put a huge hard plastic palm tree in there and Raina bites it and pulls, knocks it down.. drags it to the other side of the tank, and sleeps behind it lol. I had a bubbler in there too but they managed to disconnect the hose!

This is her second time (well..third I guess..she laid a some last month) ..the other female never has laid eggs. Both times were after a tank upgrade ..both in spring. Not sure if that is coincidence or not.

Maybe! I am going to try to find a way to build a huge nesting box she can get to from her tank... its so hard to help them! They are so uncomfortable in new environments!

are the eggs good for them to eat? or do you just take them out so the tank does not get dirty? i would let mine eat them. looks like alot of good protein.

thats a good question. That was the only time I got to them fast enough to take out. I take them because egg shell is heavy so its hard to get off the sand
