61 years old!!!
I would like to hear about some of the feeding habits of those who have very old turtles. My RES Ivana is now 19 years old. I bought her on Canal street NYC as a quarter sized "Japanese turtle".
She is very happy, healthy, bright eyed, and I always imagine she will live to be in her 60s or 70s.
The main question I have for those with long living turtles is the amount of times per week you feed your turtle. We feed ours once/week. I understand that is way below the recommendation, but when I was feeding her 3-4 times/week she was getting overweight. I'm wondering if I should go to twice/week. She's been eating once/week for 10 years now.
Again - she's strong, happy and bright eyed.
We try to vary her diet as much as possible, which means we put her in a bucket, give her leftovers of our food - rice, greens, whatever we were eating that's relatively fresh, and then add a few turtle pellets at the end as a sort of dessert.
