Can you post a picture of it? It may not a be a res at all. Thats just my first thought anyway. It could just be a very colorful res like a rio grande res.

The pic is too small for me to tell, but it could be a Rio. Looks like it is getting ready to shed. I can't really see the patterns from the glare:( I there more than red strips on the head? Whats the plastron look like ( the bottom shell)?

That's definitely a RES. Looks like his shell is in bad shape.
I'm not an expert in ID'ing shell issues, I'll leave someone else to comment on that.

Can you post some more information about your habitat and post a picture? (water temp, basking temp. the types of lamps you have etc.)

Yes like devilduck said your turtle has shell problems. It looks like its has fungus growing on 90% of the shell. This will certainly make the shell coloring dull. At this point i would say you wanna try and find a vet and get some Silver Sulfadiazine (SSD) cream for it. It will kill the fungus and the coloring will come back to it.

Respiratory infections in turtle is generally pretty serious. Looks like you caught it in time. Make sure you also bump up the water temperature in the tank to around 80-84 degrees and the basking area temperture to the mid-90's to help with recovery.

Did the vet also give you the Silver Sulfadiazine for the shell problem?

What are the symptoms to declare a upper respiratoty infection? Where did you get the turtle from?

Well my first consern was the fact that my turtle shell looked different to other turtle, then there was some discharge from her eye that my wife told me about, and soft spots in her shell, and the fact that he stays in her basking area unless, i turned it off.

Well good thing you went to vet and caught the respitory infection that more serious. Im surprised she didnt give anything for the shell. Soft spot on shell and respitory infections are two different things.
