hello. i have two philippine pond turtles and i cant determine if they are male and female. both plastrons are flat and they seem to look identical in all ways. can anyone help me. here is a pic of the their plastrons. thank you

Its looks as if both should be female

Just as i thought so. But there is another post here i think its in the picture gallery where there is this ppt showing its penis by fanning and if you look closely, you will notice that its plastron is flat

Yep that would be right. The whole convex/concave doesnt work in aquatic turtles. Thats more for toirtoises. Both males and females can be perfectly flat on their bottoms and both males and females can have a slight convex or concave shape. The Truiest way to sec a turtle is by the tail. In your picture tail lengths look equal and short. Pointing towards both being female.

One more thing, the size of my ppts is 5 to 6 inches. Adults can reach up to 12 inches. Are my turtles too young to see the concave part in males?

I have a Chinese pond turtle and he is a male even though he has flat plastron.
