My boyfriend rescued Bobo from a family that had her and her brother for three years. One day, her brother disappeared from their outside pond and, after a few months of having her inside in a glass bowl, that family decided they couldn't keep her anymore. I offered to take care of Bobo (of course she had another name then
) and the minute I saw her in the glass bowl she was brought in I fell in love with her! I even remember the day she came in - September 17th 2010. At the beginning, I didn't know anything about taking care of turtles, but after some research I found this wonderful site and hard work began...
She was about 10 cm SCL (4 inches), and all I could give her at the time was a 15 gallon tank with a small filter, a heater, a puny basking area and a red plastic plant... but she seemed pretty happy with that!
But Bobo was growing and growing... long story short, two years and many improvements later, we decided to give her a (hopefully) permanent home, a 80 gallon glass tank with a big basking area outside the tank, a bigger heater, a resting area that we like to call "her bed" and an excellent canister filter. She still has the red plant, though, and still nibbles at it!
(The UVB bulb hadn't been installed yet...)
And just because I know how much you like pics, here are a few more of my little one - well, not so little anymore, she is now 20 cm (about 8 inches) long and weighs 1200 grams (42 oz)!
In my parents' garden, May 2nd, 2013 - she had just laid her first clutch, 4 eggs, near that little lavender bush by the fence
