Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

We have an eheim jäger 150 watt heater, and use this type of bracket:

Spots likes to knock the heater out of the bracket, so I'm looking for something else to hold it. Would either of these work, or is there something else?

I believe it should not 100% sure though, I know that a lot of people use PVC pipes to secure their heaters. You can go to your local hardware store and look for a 3 inch PVC pipe drill a bunch of holes in it and point your filter outlet to the heater once it is submerged.

Personally if something like this happened with my turtles I would just make a casing out of eggcrate to secure the heater. Lots of holes already, zipties to secure and edges sanded apply silicone to the real pointy ends if neccessary. The key would be to have your filter outlet pointed to the heater.

I haven't seen inexpensive heater guards in awhile, thanks for linking that. That said, I just have mine hang freely in the tank. The very top is out of water so the cord is out of reach, even though I haven't seen them try to get it.

Talal is right, you can make your own with PVC. Not sure about the specs of it but that's why I like the Jager... it's very durable. There are also magnetic suction cups but I have not tried them.

wow $29.90 for a heater guard? I would try the e-bay items first.

A heater guard (much like the first e-bay link shows) has stopped Mango and Green pulling the heater off. There is little space between the guard and the wall of the tank, so I don't think they can get their claws behind it anymore. The bracket you have is exactly what G and M had and leaves a nice big gap for them to reach behind.

After observing her for a while, I think it is actually the suction cups not staying suctioned to the tank. It comes off constantly. My worry with it floating around is that she is pretty big, and I don't want her to knock it into the glass and shatter it.

How old is it? Suction cups just wear out! Maybe you can get some new ones.I forgot your turtles name was Spots sorry didn't mean to steal the name.

No problem! My daughter named her...I would have chosen something different, but oh well. It's not very old, I know I got the heater this year. I even tried adding two more suction cups. I wonder if the problem is the black ones? Maybe the clear suction cups would work better.

Bad news. I put clear ones on my plants and they didn't last as long as some of the black ones I have. it all depends on what kind of Robert they're made out of. but of course no one tells you what kind of rubber they're made out of so it's up to you to guess.
