So I'm working on moving my 2 RES to a 180 gal stock tank. I'm just looking for some filter ideas or suggestions for a tank this size. Things you've tried or heard worked good. Custom builds or store boughten. My time is a little limited this time of year so I will likely be buying. Thanks

Hands down the FX6 wins this debate. But you will have to put the tank on a stand at least 12" tall in order for it to purge air correctly. Of course this is just my opinion maybe because I own the FX5 on a 300 gallon stock tank.

I have to agree the FX6 looks to be top of the line. Is there something that would be similar to the FX6 for a little less money?

There are several china made filters. One even claims 1000 gph. You could look at canister filters on Amazon and E-bay. I believe Steve has links to some cheaper filters. What ever filter you choose do some research on it. Good luck.

There is a FX clone by Odyssea, but it's 500 gph. Odyssea has some larger ones, but then the costs go up accordingly. Still a good deal but might be some quality issues. Is the tank going to be in a basement?

Personally, I'd lean to the FX5/FX6 as well.

Be careful with the clones. Yes they say 1000 or even 500GPH but that's usually at the pump with no media and no head.

The FX5 was 900 GPH at the pump and 607GPH with media and a 4 foot head. You do get what you pay for. I haven't really looked at the pump specs for the FX6 but I'd assume it's the same or slightly improved.

I think its the same. The Fx6 purges or shuts down 2 times in A 24 hour period. It seams that they figured out that was a problem with the Fx5. The moter is also more efficient Uses less energy.. Adjustable outlet tube. Oh yea new impeller designed to last longer. That's nice. And I think that's about it. A great filter.PS. The fx5 boasted 563 US gallons per hr. Don't even get me started about the price!! Would still buy one though. Great filters.

The FX5 price isn't bad considering it's only real competition is the large Eheim 2262 for $600.

Think they drop the price recently, I saw it on Amazon for $399. I would rather have an Eheim.

I own one fx5 and will be buying an fx6 sooner or later. I like the features on the Fx's.
