I recently went to a boat and sport show at a local arena. We were walking around when I came across a tank that had a RES in it. I was pretty far away and having two turtles myself I wanted to get a closer look. When I got closer to the tank I noticed the turtle was an adult and its shell was shaped like an eight. I saw sign that had the Missouri Conservation logo on it and showed a picture of a turtle with plastic pop ring around its shell. However when I was looking at the turtle I noticed it had a overgrown beak and overgrown nails, and on top of it all the tank it was in wasn't even big enough for the turtle to turn around. I'm hoping that the only reason the turtle was in that small of tank was so it could be brought to the show but even then it is still in-humane to keep a turtle in a tank so small it can't even turn around. Just wanted to hear other peoples opinion on this.

It's possible the simple setup is for making it easy for them to display. However, it can be stressful to be in those conditions. As for overgrown nails... it most cases it's normal for nails to be long, especially with males. Overgrown beaks should be rare for RES but can happen. Considering all this turtle has been through, it should probably be seen by a herp vet.
