I know that turtles and tortoises shouldn't live together, however, my turtle and tortoise have been living together for almost a year and nothing ever happened. They never got sick, not that I know of, and they never acted violent on each other... actually, they are always together and seem to get along just fine.
However, they started acting strange. My 3 year old male turtle started trying to mate with the tortoise by shacking his arms to which the tortoise replies by bobbing her head and then walking away. I read online that when a tortoise bobs her head it means that it wants to fight, though, like I said, they never acted violent. I don't know what to do. Should I separate them?

Agreed. Do they share the same water?

I have already separated them, the tortoise atackted the turtle, though I don't know what a tortoise tank looks like, I have no idea what they like... and yes, they shared the same water.

It depends on what kind of tortoise... there is a wider range than what terrapins might require.
