I recently did a water change in my 50 gallon tank which holds my two 6 month old RES. I hadnt done a water change in months so about 1/3 of the water was already evaporated . And the night before I did the water change I accidentally poured too much food in the tank and it had all fallen to the bottom before I could take it up, so that caused my tank to get brownish dirty water. Now I know when you remove most of the water you can cause a bacteria boom makeing the tank to be cloudy. And i experienced this before with my 38 gallon tank I have for my fishes. However this time the cloudyness lasted longer (its been about a week and two days since I cleaned the tank and filter) and it has a slight stench that sort of lingers in my room around the tank. That never happened before either.
I thought it was my filter at first like when i put it back together after cleaning itn. Maybe a part went loose because it does seem louder than it was before , like it sounds like little rocks moving around, but im pretty sure it did that noise before. i dont remember tbh . But I dont think the filter (fluval 306) because everything seems to be flowing in correctly, and the water comming out the output tube looks clear , not the yellowish brown that the rest of the water in my tank looks like. I did a bunch of research and I just assumed that it was a bacteria boom and to just wait it out , but my family keeps telling me its "mold" and I need to get a new filter or something, so i figured Id come here and see what you guys think. Thanks for any responses

Could be a lot of waste in there if you are overfeeding. Gravel certainly doesn't help. You'll likely want a better filter but even that won't make all those water issues go away.

So you don't think it could be fine waste particles? My tank sometimes get that when the turtles have a bit of digestive problems.

I don't remember working on the 306, could be the impeller loose? As for clear looking water out of the tube, that's just because it's a small sample. If it's taking a lot longer to clear up, I would go ahead and do a partial change.
