I'm not sure what kind of filter to use

Can I use a air filter to use as a filter for my terras?

How big is the tank? And how big is the turtle? Plan on having 10 gallons of tank per inch of shell length... so a fully grown female might need a 90 to a 120 gallon tank. Filters have fish aquarium ratings on them and you should multiply that to get your answer. For example, a 50 gallon aquarium should get a filter rated for a 150 gallons (when used for RES).

I'm using a large container as they are still small but will change to a tank soon

Being both females for there finally adult tank will need to be large. Just a regular glass 120 is in the $500 range and a higher quality one starts around $800 and up ! Plus a stand ! To save money I use Rubbermaid stock tanks. They can be found for the same size for only a couple hundred and last forever. I have several over 20 years with no problems. You could use simple as is or go as extravagant as you want for the looks . You have plenty time to think about them before you need an adult tank.

At 3" long, you can't be certain they are females just yet. You might want to wait a little until you find out for certain.

Eizul that 4:45 post got by me.
Agree with Steve 3" little early yet maybe by 4" some signs may show.
Had "change to a tank soon on my mind" ! And how I like stock tanks being so wide you can do so much more with them , just wanted to pass that on.
