Great observing on your part ! Agree with PokePony , read that thread. Most try there best to control all for a happy and healthy turtle lighting , water , food etc...
You don't want an obstruction from something he ate.
Seasons are changing , some older homes the heat rises in a room and the floors are colder. Monitor the tanks temps a little more ( basking area and water ) and may see a few degrees difference in temps. May not be much for us to feel the difference but enough for you turtle to notice ? This time of year in US winter is coming some turtles bask more in the later part of the day , if so offer him an hour or two more time to bask by setting your timer on a little longer.
