Last summer I tried ice in water bottles and soda bottles but it would only bring the temps down 1 or 2 degrees. And there was a lot of ice there. I also tried encasing my canister filter in styrofoam and filling it with ice but it didn't work since I have a large tank.

I had to resort to doing partial water changes to bring the water temps down. It really sucked since I had to do it once or twice a day.

You can buy a chiller but they are very expensive. Keeping an AC (away from the tank) on would be the easiest way to do it.
