Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi, i'm new here I have been reading others stories on here since my nephew got his baby res turtles early last month. Their names are Buddy ( ) and Pearl
( :msgreen: ). I worry about them because we haven't got like the heater and such for them. Since my sister who did not know they need all these things and the person who sold her them didnt even tell her this and gave her the wrong pellets for them. Since I met them I got instantly attached and I worry. Because of this site and talking to friends with turtles I got the correct food for them (Pro Reptomin) even tho sadly their shells have pyramided a bit. I live in a tropical country where there is constant sun and where they are located they get shade and also alot of sun. Their water gets warm but not dangerously warm. I have seen then basking alot, Buddy even stretches his legs out to soak up all that sun xD. But I'm still worried about their shells and health. I have noticed that the back of the shell, near their tails are soft. I have smelled them they don't give me signs of shell rot but it''s still soft to me compared to the rest of the shell. I have listened to them and I don't hear any wheezing or heavy breathing. They eat fine and swim very quickly and are very active. They still aren't use to us since when they see us they run away but with food they don't. I'll post pictures of them.

(we will be getting their stuff soon as we ordered them.)

I don’t have access to flickr at the moment but it sounds like you’re on the right path. What are the water temperatures? You might not need a heater.

Around 50-60 degrees. We bring them in at night, their water gets to be 40 or when it rains.

Aren't those temps very cool for a tropical country? What are you using to measure it? Baby RES should have water that is around 78-80F. I can view Imgur but you can also upload it to the forum as attachments.

I use a Thermometer. Yesterday water temps are what I gave you and we did have some rain. Today being sunshine and I just checked it is 82 But i think i may need to get a heater because at night their water temps are low.

This is them together. I put them in a bowl in the sun while i change their water.

Buddy looks like he's growing too fast (eating too much). Pearl too, how much are you giving them?

I would suspect someone is sneaking them extra food. Very hard to resist their begging! I sort out their daily food in a pillbox when necessary.

Haha they are very adorable. I am greeted by them every time I come home from classes and buddy gets very frantic when he sees me. Pearl takes her time and eat but buddy rushes his pellets down. How do you think I should feed them?

Sort out their food and hide the rest. Let family members feed them so they don't try to sneak them food? They probably need more than 6 pellets a day, but I suspect they are getting more than that.

Here it is it's small, compared to their heads. my sister also chops up very very small pieces of tomatoes for them. They really like it.

Ok. Stick to 2/3 or 1/2 head size amount.
