you should take him for a checkup anyway. Even if you never think anything will go wrong, it's good to find a vet now so you know where to go if you need to.

The water should be as deep as possible. Remember, in the wild they're found in ponds and lakes

His water should be as high as you can fill the tank/container with out giving him a means of escape over the top. RES are aquatic turtles and love to swim. They need as large of habitats and as much water as we can provide them with in captivity to live healthy happy lives.

Hi Again,
Well I got him a preform garden pond in my damn living room (60) gallon
I got river rocks and his light going , he has for now a 10 gallon area to swim
I wasnt even sure the poor little guy could swim, but he took to it like a champ.. he is puttering around and looks happier now.. I gotta get filter hooked up but for today atleast he has rom to roam and swim... he certainly looks happy.. I took picture but having trouble loading them i gotta update
but will post later as I have to work.. I will read about plants and gets some
goodies for him, hopefully this is a start

I'm glad you got him a bigger setup. I would recommend you remove some of the rocks. It might be the picture but it seems that the rocks are taking up valuable swimming space.

well there is a big rock in there but i was concerned he couldnt get up on the ledge thingee.. what do you think?? can he swim up and climb up

I can add alot more water also but was trying to figure out how he would get to a basking place.... When hubby gets home he will have idea's
My main concern was getting him out of the little tank the clowns had him in
and giving him room to roam
I am open to any suggestions.. I just want the little guy to have a better life
and live.... Mama's rescue home sheesh any more hubby will put me in a pond

Just in 24 hours this little guy has really snapped around.. he loves being able to swim around and doesnt want to get out of the water.. we balanced the pond out more to be able to add more water.. he ate a couple slivers of carrots .. but i am sure it will take awhile to get him use to other foods as his previous CLOWN owners didnt do squat with him.. I wasnt even sure he would be able to swim.. as they had him in a 10 gallon tank with 2 inches of water...now he has approx 20 gallons of swim water and is totally loving it..
we are waiting a day or so to add stuff.. we want him to relax and get use to his space.. i have river rock in his basking place I dont think he likes that.. as he hasnt basked yet he wont get out of the water... i think i will get a flat rock and remove river rock maybe that will make him happy.. But so far so good
I think he is happier here then living with the CLOWNS that didnt give a squat
for him.. both me and my hubby agree his shell looks better already seeeing more green on it.. seems like there is alittle shedding going on.. But it is a new start for the little guy..
