Habitat - Indoor :: Baby Cooters

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I got these 2 over the weekend. I never saw so many baby turtles. The guy had cooters, painteds, musk, map, stinkpot, snappers, Alligator snappers..... Anyway my daughter decided on these 2 baby cooter turtles. Right now they are in a 29 Gallon, I plan on filling it a bit higher once they are use to it. They have a water heater, 75 watt repti glo basking flood, 36" repti sun 5.0 UVB, and the water fall thing in the left end is a filter. It has 2 filter pads in it, but there is plenty of empty space, so I am thinking I may add some bio balls etc. I put large river stones in the bottom, and an anacharis plant in there. Plus pieces of cuttle bone. They are eating great and seem very happy.

the one pic is fuzzy because the tank use to be an aquarium and there is still a bit of leftover build up on the glass.

They are cute turtles. In my opinion, I think you have an adequate setup for now. I would suggest getting a canister filter so that there is more space in the tank. You can fill the tank all the way up because these turtle love to swim.....others will chime in wth more suggestions

They have actually been climbing up on the waterfall filter to bask as well as the platform they are on in the picture, so I may combine the 2 to take up less tank space. I did see some VERY LARGE cooters at the place I got these. They were bigger than a dinner plate. We have a pond in the works for later down the line. I may upgrade them to a stocktank similiar in size to the one that my baby Red footed tortoises are in once they outgrow this tank.

We got them at the Ohio Reptile show in Columbus. They will probably be the last ones I buy from a store/breeder....I would rather adopt ones in need of a home.
