Habitat - Indoor :: Could this work?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hi guys. I'm new here as you can tell by my first post. I have a plan on building a new habitat for my turtle but I am not sure if it is recommended.

I'm thinking of buying a separate plastic container, which will be completely full of water. Also, I want to convert my 10 gallon tank into a basking habitat only...

During certain times of the day, I will move him manually into one of the two habitats.

I want to do this because cleaning my current tank is tiring and time consuming work and I think that having a container full of water will be alot easier to manage, simply dump, rinse & refill.

Thanks.

Yeah, that could work for smaller turts. When he gets bigger it may become an issue.

I don't think that you should manually bask your turtle. Your turtle is going to bask when he feels the need to get warm. You have know way of knowing when that is. So, in your own way you are forcing him to bask when you want, because it is convenient for you, and it isn't the healthiest for your turtle.

If you want to use the extra tank for something beneficial that will help keep the tank clean, use it as a feeding tank. Put the food in the smaller tank, place him there to feed, and wait for him to do his business. Then place him back in the larger tank. The body waste and food waste will then be left in the smaller tank.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Now I guess I won't be doing this anymore.

I will try to feed him in a separate tank, that sounds like a good idea. :)

How big is the tank now? 10 gallons? A plastic container, the rubbermaid/sterlite variety, is nice, cheap upgrade. It should not be filled too high without additional support (braces) and I would not fill it more than halfway. Even then, it will still be susceptible to stress cracks down the line. This is a good home for small/young RES.
