The tank will cycle by itself. Just put the turtles in. You don't have to wait.

ok, i finally have the rocks, 3 plants (1 amazon sward, 1 Anacharis, and another live plant.) my XP 3 filtering, and a heater... THe only thing is, idk if a lot of current comes from that spray bar, so i might drill a hole in the bottom side to stimulate underwater movment a little bit. If i use a smaller hole it will spray a lil harder...

I will put some pictures up when i get a moment, for now i'm happy its set up...

Let me ask,e very once and a while i hear a gental woosh sound through my xp3... is this normal?

P.S. i got a Rena Water heater, a 300watt one.

That whoosh is just air escaping from inside the filter, no biggie....It'll stop after a while.

sweet, it only happens every once and a while, and i seem to be able to see air going down the tube right before...

Today is the first day with the turtles and the new filter... I'll say, this filter is great, nice and quiet, i love the spray bar. I have the regulator on it, but opened all the way, pointing up...

But what about drilling a small hole on the bottom for current do you think i'd be able to do that?

I think there is already enough current. The intake on one side sucks water from the bottom causing a current from the bottom and with the spraybar shooting the water upwards that agitates the surface.

Well the thing is, my intake is about 4-6" off the bottom, and i'm using on e of the extension tubes to lower the discharge. It's just to short otherwise. Eitehr that or my water level needs to go up up up

I got those at Lowes hardware store in the garden section. You can find them also at art/crafts type stores.

Would these http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ct ... hemstars20 be good to put in one of the middle baskets for growing beneficial bacteria that break down the turtle waste ?
