umm, there's a sticky on box turtle care at the top of this section. :) I feel bad for your friend's turtle. He must be miserable. :(

Are you sure it's a box turtle? If so, I have to say I'm horrified that it's been kept in water

yea jenaero,
its an eastern boxie..(sorry for the bad story)and i know right, i havent really seen any boxes since grade school, and even then, i knew they werent aquatic turts...im in the process of letting the owner know the improvements they need to make..like, add some substrate they can actually "burrow" in, remove water, replace it with a small dish, get some "around the house" food , and get em a lamp for now...

Aquariums don't make good homes for boxies at all, but a 10 gallon is tiny. It would be like me living in my closet.

Jenaero posted some pictures of a rubbermaid with some substrate that inspired me. I kinda made a copy. It only cost me about $20 for everything.

That was a while back, in case you didn't find anything, here's a pic of mine. This is a 46gal rubbermaid for a hatchling boxie. An adult requires 4'x4' of space.
