Why does Alaska & Hawaii always get left out?? *sniff*s

I have been looking for a good online store to purchase, well, anything for my RES.
Everyone seems to be saying such nice things about Big Al's Online. So, I check it out. I want to get the Filstar XP3. And Bingo! It's on sale right now. Getting ready to order it, and lo & behold. No shipping to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, etc etc

Why is it that no one likes to ship to Hawaii? And if they do, the shipping is up the yin-yang. I know we're far away, but we're people too. There are turtle-lovers over here!! :(

I am only satisfied with the service at 1 or 2 pet stores here. And they do not always have what i am looking for. Am i overlooking any site??? Does anyone have suggestions??? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Much Mahalos!!!!

I had the same problem when I lived in alaska and hawaii. Nothing ever came out that way. And when I was in alaska it was even worse because we were on an island. Even groceries had to be flown in. It was ridiculous and very frustrating.

You can order from Petsmart.com, you'll be hit with a $15 additional shipping fee, but I think that's reasonable.

The reason that the shipping rates are so high is not because the distance. It's because they are FORCED to ship the products by air. Even people living in the mainland USA get charged a lot of money if we want to ship anything by air.

ooh that's painful. I know in Alaska everyone gets a big dividend check at the end of the year from all the oil they produce. I also heard that you get paid a lot to work there to make up for the high prices for everything else. I had a few friends move out there and lived out of a trailer in the parking lot of the canning factory they worked at for a couple of years. They came back with enough money to start their own businesses.

I think Alaskans also get huge tax breaks.

Anyway, sorry to hear how difficult it is to get supplies! You might check with any local reptile groups and associations, they might have tips and inside information. Maybe you have relatives who can ship these to you?

holy crap!!! I just tried to see how reptiledirect.com was. i did a "test run" and put about $80 worth of products in and did the "Calculate Shipping Cost". Shipping to my zip code would be $85.00!!!! So i would be paying $170 for only $80 worth of stuff. it wasnt even heavy stuff either, just random things like a floating dock, some decorations, etc.

oh well, the search goes on.

mahalo for all the help!!! :D

Yea, but that's what the retail price at a pet store would work out to be. Usually the stuff you get online is about half the price of pet stores.

xp3
