iv'e seen people with common snapping turtles and they say they're hard pets to take care of but they're fun to keep. i was wondering if my parents would let, where can i purchase or get one? ive checked turtle sale [not reputable] and wow is it pricey!

By the phrase "name removed", I'm guessing you checked out the no-no site. Stay away from that site, and pretty much all other sites on the internet as well. Generally you pay way too much for a turtle and often, they are ill and die. Look for reputable breeders in your area or look at local rescue groups.

I found mine walking across the road. There aren't any creeks or any bodies of water around my home at all, so I don't know where he came from or was heading to, and I didnt want the little guy to get squished. The one reptile store near my place has them once in a great while, but like you said they all really expensive. Mines just a hatchling, so it isn't all that hard to care for yet. (not a biter lol yet) Good luck in your search.

Peter- have you taken some time to look into how large snappers get? They really aren't a beginner turtle so make sure you know what you're getting into. Don't just get one because they're cool.

im pretty sure i know i can handle it. but here's what bums me out. they're illegal in california

I've got two common snapper hatchlings that found in a nest that had been dug into. I have to say snappers make just about the cutest hatchlings ever (like having a living miniature fossil). But they get big and they get mean. The space they ultimately need is one that most keepers can't provide. (And no, these are not going to be pets; they're going to be released in the spring.)

a reptile and fish shop near my house has a hatchling, adorable little thing but he looks like he's gunna be a monster when he gets bigger....i think the owner might be keeping him and just has it on display for now though.
