Yes, I've asked about this once before, in my thread in the introductory forum. There's a link to a pic there that shows the grit a little better. The little turtle does, indeed have a gritty, kind of sandy looking shell, especially when it's dry. Any information, comments, or advice about this would be appreciated. Hmmm, think I should start a new topic about it in the care forum?

Ok, I'm confused. I did a search for YES and the info I got was that there isn't such a thing. Just RES with differant colored ears. There is the yellow belly slider, and Brazilian Slider that would be close but looking their pics it doesn't look like them. So is there a YES species or not? Or is it just Red-ears with variations in coloring? :)

Well we know that your slider isn't albino. :P That kind of slider is ALL yellow but still with red-ears.

sonyj: I did some research on it too... seems to me that the YES is the same thing as a cumberland slider. Although I'm totally confused too so I may not be of much help :)

eewwwww to the albino. I love the color yellow but that's just a bit to much and very weird looking .. well to me it is :)

Cute RES, Angella. The shell is somewhat like that of my painted hatchling--rough and a little dry. With good living conditions and a healthy diet, though, when the turtle grows and scutes shed, the shell should great. :)

Cumberland sliders have a somewhat different pattern and orangy streaks on their heads. They're less common in the pet trade.

Hello guys! Can anyone help me pls? Do i have a Red Eared Slider or Map Turtle or barbour turtle? Issue is instead of colour RED, his ears are YELLOW. Secondly, its carapace has some SPIKES. Any ideas pls?

Number 2 question: I am in UK, am I breaking the law? I adopted it from a 8yo boy who is giving it away.

Number 3: Turtle does not like basking under uvb lamp.. no idea why. It wants to gonunder water always.

It's a map turtle, not sure what kind. So the ridges and color look normal.

As for the legality... it depends. Check with local groups and see what they have to say regarding private ownership.

With basking... does he have privacy, is it warm enough, and is it easy to access?
