thanks. I had the 22 gal tank and i wanted to make an above tank basking area in order to put more water in the 55 gallon tank. so i just took off one side of the 33 gal and set it on top. then i needed a ramp, so i used greygoose's ramp idea with bent acrylic and ceramic tile. then i realized charifa needs a top for the open part of the tank. I made that screen thing out of 1/2 in ply wood, 4 little pieces of 1X1 and screening. the screen part comes off easily for feeding. also, the whole basking platform comes off the bottom tank for cleaning and water changes.

Looks very creative. Has Charifa been using the basking area yet? I think your RES may be a girl, I'd need closer and clearer pics

You can use most razors to cut away the silicone. An X-acto knife would be pretty good in this situation.

It looks like you have various band members staring into the tank at your turtle.

Very cool idea. I have been thinking of putting in a basking area above the tank so I can fill my 75 gallon all the way up. I have a question about it. How do you get UV light to your turtle? I know that glass blocks most UV rays (especially UV-B with wavelengths shorter than 300nm), so the bottom of the smaller tank is going to stop most of the UV rays from getting to the water area on the right side of the tank. Do you have some directional lighting on through the screen on the left side for the UV lighting?

As long as there is UV light on the basking spot, you don't need it to go into the water. Water reflects most of it anyway.

Wow, very neat idea! I've seen many above tank basking docks, but this is one of my favorites, I think. It seems very do-able and sturdy. Has your turtle been enjoying it yet?
It looks really great!

I third the "girl" decision! And I love the platform and the her name!!

Good Job! Hope she is using it.
