Just a little update since I joined Turtle Talk and realised that Spanky was in a tank which was waaay too small for him...

So yesterday I went to the city and bought him a new tank, so he has jumped from a 8 gallon tank to a 50 gallon tank!






He's outgrown the Turtle Dock already - thats a small, there is a large in the post

I'm not too sure about decorating it as of yet... still not sure if I like the minimalist look about it... or if he likes it! So any suggestions or pics of examples would be welcomed!

Add a few fake plants, a bubble wall/stone, or a few large river rocks. I have an almost bare tank as well for my Spanky. You might want to get the bigger dock though, he really weighs it down. They should have an area to get completely out of the water.

Big jump in tank size for Spanky. I love that third pic (the mug shot). The basking area needs to be out of the water more, though--his plastron should be able to completely dry off.

I think a little green would be nice (and you could still keep it kind of minimalist).

Here is a pic of my Spanky in his tank. He is getting a little bit big for it, but 3 more weeks till we move and he gets his own room with a 150 gallon pond!



not sure why it looks so dark, but you get the idea. I finally found a fake plant that he won't tear apart.

I have ordered a new turtle dock - the largest one, so hopefully that will be here soon, though when Spanky climbs right onto that one it does lift back out of the water... just...

I tried some fake plants/ grass and the little imp just stuck his head under them and lifted until they began to float, but I like the one you have Stacey that looks to have a rock at the bottom of it. I also like the bubble wall - it seems to break up the stillness of the tank.

I will have to keep my eye out for some bigger stones for the bottom, though haven't been able to find any as of yet, and know it will make cleaning harder (though a chore I don't mind doing it must be said!) I have read about turts pushing them about, so if its fun for him I don't see why not!

Another thing I have been contemplating is a background - I have looked at a couple in local pet shops and a few online, though haven't made my mind up on those either.

I will let you all know what happens - prob when it happens!

You can take a flat rock and silicone it to the base of the plastic plant. It will stay weighted and you (and your turt) can rearrange it as you choose.

Hmm... that almost sounds like its time to get creative! hehe!

I don't think it would matter where I put plants/ stones though as he kinda gets his own way and things would be rearranged as he sees fit! Even if the items where siliconed to the base of the tank I think he would find a way to shift them!

My RES is the same. If I put a plant or rock in one place, he soon as it moved to his liking. You don't want to silicone the plant to the base of the tank, just to a flat rock so the plant stays upright but weighted. Then you can watch him do interior decorating and the plant won't float.

I didn't want to post another thread to update everyone with whats been going on.

I am still planning on getting a new filter, but in the meantime I have bought some rocks and a fake tree for the tank...



And this is our newest addition... if you would have seen the poor conditions in the pet shop you would have taken him too... We weren't sure how Spanky would take to him/her, as you can see:


But he ended up looking out for him and making sure s/he was ok whilst basking! I'm not sure whether he thinks himself as a father figure for him/her or he is just thankful for a buddy!

You may want to think about upgrading your basking area.. looks like Spanky has out grown it

Yeah, I have ordered a large Turtle Dock last weekend from the US, though I expected it to be here today, I am confident it will be here by Monday!

Oh goodness.. that's right you're in Northern Ireland. Is it difficult for you to find equipment there?? Things are so accessible to us that I tend to forget its not the same everywhere else. I don't think you have Walmarts there right?? lol

It must cost quite a bit for shipping. And some places won't ship abroad.

Hammy, have you thought about what kind of canister you might get?
