I just thought I would share a picture of a turtle that came up onto the porch during the Hurricane. I picked it up for a minuite then let it go on its merry way.

Isn't it cute?

Yes he came to find dry land.... and no wind.... This was my first time seeing this type of turtle... I didn't know that the bottom of their shells were hinged... I thought this was very cool....

I used to catch eastern box turtles as a child when we lived in Oklahoma. The summer after third grade, I must have seen over one hundred boxies, several mud turtle, a snapping turtle, and a couple RES. And yes, I let them go after examining them all. My mom wouldn't let me keep them.... :( LOL of course I now know why she wouldn't(especially since I'm a mom now), but at 9 I just wanted to keep all those neat turtles with me forever. The hinge on box turtles always fascinated me, but having seen so many I thought that was the way "all" turtles were made for a real long time.... :D Ah, memories....
