Here's a couple pictures of the new guy. After about a week I decided to take him out of the big tank and move him to a smaller one....he seems to really like the smaller tank for now...

SHE is a cutie, but i think i see some split dorsal scutes. it's most likely gonna be a female, and hope you didn't pay full price for her.
May i ask where you purchased her?

Your pastel is a female also by the way. Most pastels are due to high incubation temps to obtain them, which causes split scutes.

Thanks Tammi and Bulldog!!

And Jozzep....what exactly are "split dorsal scutes"? They're both healthy and very personable, and that's all that matters to me...it's sad you have to point out the "negative" on things. And what is "full price"? I didn't know there were set prices that were the standard for turtles. Maybe you could point me in the right directions so I can check the market price next time. Thanks!!

Sorry if i "hurt your feelings" but you post a pic, and i'm just commenting on what i see. I try to teach people things, and i get an attitude in return....YOUR WELCOME BUDDY!!
Split scutes are birth defects caused by high incubation temps. "Imperfect" turtles are worth less than "perfect shell" turtles.

These are slit scutes

I posted pics for people to see my new baby turtle....not for someone to point out irregularities. If there was something medically wrong with him, then great, fill me with your knowledge! But if it's cosmetic, and you just fee like pointing out what's wrong with him, then keep it to yourself. Thanks

Lucky enough this forum is not only for YOUR pleasure, but also for OTHER people to learn more about turtles and not buy every defective turtle on the internet!
If you don't want people criticizing your turtles, then keep the pics to your self and stop crying like a baby just cause you didn't read what you wanted to!

Your turtle is adorable Jeff - boy or girl, skewed scutes, straight scutes, however - it's really cute! I actually like the look of his/her carapace.

Jeff of course you already know, how much I love your pasterl and dbt turle, and yes your painted is most likely a female bcuz of its split scutes, and birth defect or not, I think that her split scutes add to her cute style ;)

She is adorable!!! You are so lucky. Those photos are great, you should definitely submit the first one into the photo contest, if you haven't already.

I have to agree with everyone else except for jozzep, I have nothing againts you, but I think as long as the turtle is healthy...bad scutes or not is not a big problem.

My Kroten (the pastel one) wasn't look good when I bought her...but I have no regret of paying full price on her coz she turns to be a gorgeous pastel RES :)

Your DBT is so cute Jeff :) I wish I can have other slider than RES...but it's hard to find them in here

Hey listen.......I never said it was a "big problem", and i never said it "wasn't cute".
I just made an observation based on the fact that i "breed" DBT, and i don't just see a pic of a baby and go "UUUUUU,AHHHHH,IIIIIII, SOOOO CUTE!!"
If i knew this many people would have had sissy fits, instead of learning , i would have never said anything and left you in your ignorance.

I'm seriously getting tired of ALL these turtle forums. I realize more and more that i'm dealing with little kids, and you have to watch what you say and what you do,cause you hurt their feelings and bla bla bla.
I got better things to do with my time........
