You guys probably thought you would never see me again, much less any photos of my turtle and setup. I've been so busy with school. I managed 7 A's and 1 B. The one B I had was in Algebra II and I made an 89 for the semester, and she would not bump it up. Makes me so mad. I still got a 4.14 GPA though.

I have a 55 gallon aquarium with an oak stand and hood. Large gravel rocks and plants, with some petrified wood on the bottom. Standard turtle dock with UVB 5% and a 60 watt household bulb. I'm still not sure he is a he. As for the name, Yrtle has kind of stuck, I know it's a little lame, but. I also included some pictures of my 29 gallon fish aquarium, and some pictures of my cats.

Here is a link to the photo album-

I'm hoping maybe this picture can help sex him. He's currently about 3.5 inches.

Is it too late to enter the December photo contest?

By just looking at the nails it seems like it might be a girl but that could change. Could you post a pic of the tail? Nice looking tank/s.

Congrats on school and good to have you back :)

They have to over 4 inches long before you sex them, correct?

Yes you can get a GPA over 4, I take mostly PAP classes, so my GPA is weighted. Now I know someone else that takes all PAP at another HS, and they don't weight the GPA.

Thanks, I thought I put a lot of work into his tank so far.

Nice tank(s), pics, and I was initally surprised at the 4+ GPA as well. :)

There is a pic of your turt's butt somewhere in those pics (look at pic 5 in the first link), and from the small, stubby shape (along with those nails), I think it could be a girl as well (the cloaca is close to the shell?). Some turtles are easier to sex than others. When my RES was around 3.5 inches (shell length not including the curve), he already had much longer nails than yours, and his tail looked like a stinger. So, unless a rapid transformation takes place, it looks like you might have a lady.

That's a really nice tank.. yrtle looks happy too.. :)

I'd go with a female just by the nails but I didn't see a tail pic either. I could tell the sex of my turtles long before they were 4".. the charcteristics got more prominent but seems I figured it out before they "matured".

Opps missed marisa's post.. so yep I definitely go with a girl :)

Well since I've got tons of free time right now, I decided to put this together.

http://www.texasjagsfanwebsitedesign.com/RedEarSlider/

If you go to the photo gallery, on page 2 of the Yrtle album, you'll get a closeup of his tail. If you watch the two movies I put on there, you can also see his tail, and you can hear the rocks being moved around. It's funny to watch.

I'm just curious, if you have a favorite picture, please tell me.

As for the heater, it came with this aquarium when I bought it, post a picture of you heater so we can see it.

I like a lot of the pics, but actually like that butt shot as far as candid pics go. :) BTW, the rock in the pic is the same kind my RES has in his tank. He considers it one of his "girlfriends" when he's in the mood...

Great pix, and I really like your setup. The "butt shot" pix should be a good entry for the contest! Congratulations on school, you must have worked very hard.
