Still don't know Nikos true sex after 2 years of ownership (well, 2yrs come the 24th). Anyway, I just weighed and measured Niko again because I was bored and my oh my is my Niko growing.

I only put this post here because I'm including a picture...

I wil lalso be posting Nikos growth chart which I've been tracking since the day I received him/her which was 9/24/2008



9/24/2008 - 10 grams - 1.5 inches
1/9/2008 - 18 grams - 1.8 inches
1/1/2009 - 28 grams - 2.5 inches
2/21/2009 - 36 grams - 2.6 inches
12/15/2009 - 74 grams - 3.25 inches
6/29/2010 - 95 grams - 3.75 inches

The measurements from here on (now & future) will be more precise now that I'm beginning to understand how to read a tape measure...

9/10/2010 - 105 grams - 3.9375 inches

Anyway, as you can see from Nikos pic and growth chart I must be doing something right since Niko to the best of my knowledge has no signs what so ever of pyramiding and seems to be as healthy as a horse as the saying goes.

also, thanks for posting a growth chart! I've been trying to figure out how fast RES grow so I can know what to expect of my babies.

I use Microsoft Excel to track all of Nikos growth stuff. How fast they grow really depends on the turtle itself and how mcuh you feed em but I usually try to weigh and measure Niko every 2-3 months when I remember.

keeping a growth chart is a good idea. I should start doing that.

2 years and not even 4".........I'd say with confidence you have a little boy there.

Possibly but I'm quite confident with the latest measurement.

Edit: If you round it you may as well say Niko is 4"

I have 2 baby res turtles, just 1.5" and 1.6" SCL. I'm not really sure how fast they should be growing, but you mentioned in this post that 2 years, not reaching 4" might very well be a boy. How accurate is this? So I can expect what my turtles' sex would be when they reach about a year.

Tail would be the easy part, it's nails that would be the issue... would have to try and get a pic of them when Nikos in the water since Nikos likes tp pull back the feet when he/shes out of water until the running begins lol.
