Because it's so cute!

I've seen it happen. Small alligators like that don't eat turtles that big. Once the gators are full grown, then it's game time.

We went to Gatorland in Orlando, Florida a few years ago. We were standing around the Turtle pond watching the turtles. There was what looked like a large rock that about 4 or 5 turtles were basking on. It turned out to be a large Snapping Turtle they were basking on. The turtles never moved, even when the snapper snapped at a passing fish.
