Same tank? Maybe DB4L could answer that one but I thought DB required brackish water.

I had heard that as well. But I had heard that the concentric DBT were mainly the ones that needed that type of water because they are so sensitive. But yes they are all in the same tank.

Very nice looking turts! Captive bred DBT can be raised in freshwater, wild caught DBT should be kept in brackish water or they'll have skin/shell problems.

Such cuties and I love their names too!

Wild caught, aren't DBT on the protected list and your not supposed to remove them from their environment, thought I read that somewhere. If not I know what I'm doing next time I go to my in-laws in Lewes DE.

Overall they are not a protected species, but they may be protected in certain parts of the country.

It probably verys state to state but NY rules: you need a permit to catch a wild dbt and only during open season. Must be above 4inches but not over 7inches. Actually to add on more to what steve said compared to most other turtle species taken from the wild. Some dbts will just starve to death and will not eat anything. Alot never take to pellets and have to be feed meats which is a real pain.

I actually bought a wc dbt passed off as a cb. Some people do that just to make a quick $. She never took to pellets. She was very hard to take care of. Little interest in meats so had to be fed sperate. I got rid of her after a year. Actually right now i think i did the same thing again with new dbt... Argh

Thats wild dbts over year. To be honest if i was passing through a state with dbts and saw a hatchling id take it >.>

i wouldnt pass up a DBT if i seen one. Id put up with the pain of feeding them to have a such a beautiful turtle. My gf's friend found a turtle on the road while on a road trip and took a pic n put it on facebook n guess what it was...a large DBT...

Idk you have a good chance it could die. From a fungus infection first. So far 2 of the 3 i know are wc. Ive tried, live common shinners, a dead common shinner, shrimp, chicken turkey. Every variety of pellets. I have not gotten them to touch anything. One is on the light side already. My last two options are smelt(most reccomended actually) and live crayfish. If that dont work. Force feeding. Then one that did eat now just completely freaks out, idk what happen. So its not looking good. ID never take a wild dbt adult.

Smh I never wanna purposely purchase a wild caught animal of ANY kind, be it turtle, frog, deer, dog, whatever lol

Alot of pets you find on the internet are wild caught. especially on kingsnake.com

Im actually looking to get a Baby American Alligator here soon. will be sweet!
