Haven't taken pics in a while so I thought I'd get some new ones. Nothing exciting. I'll have funny pics sometime this week when I introduce the boxies to eachother.

Cool! btw maybe by setting the milk crate on its side you can raise the water level....though i suppose if your turts are escape artists they might make a break for freedom! lol maybe a screen is a solution? sry if i am rambling i am tired

Someone suggested that a while back and I was embarassed that I hadn't thought of it myself. I tried it and it's a smaller surface area. I'm actually going to to make an above tank area out of a rubbermaid tote or something in the spring and fill that tank all the way up. Thanks for the tip tho :-)

CUTE! I love all the turtles! They look great! It looks like everyone has healed from thier maladies? Dog is parasite free, Pandora has no shell rot, and I hope your ankle is either healed, or very close to it!I am working on an above tank basking area idea too, I can't wait to see yours!

Nice set ups. I've considered getting a boxie myself. We so love animals but are limited to what we can have by the co-op board and allergies. :(

Quick question Jen. How "easy" (lol) is it to keep the boxies habitat clean? I mean, do you change the entire substrate regularly or just clean it out?

Scripta, you've got a great memory! I'm still not sure about the shell situation but it hasn't worsened. Dog had worms but I think I got enough meds into him that he's fine now. Haven't seen any in quite a while. My ankle has healed nicely, considering it's the 3rd time I've broken it..lol. It'll be a while before I do anything about an above tank basking spot but when I do, I'll post pics. I was thinking of just using a rubbermaid and putting a ramp on it. I'll have to make it escape proof but I'm not sure how yet.

CountryGirl, keeping the boxies clean is fairly easy. I pick up any poop/leftover food when I see it and do a full cleaning about every 3 months. The only real problem I'm having that you won't get with keeping RES is that a boxie's tub/pen is the perfect breeding ground for various insects. I recently had a cricket infestation. Also, an adult boxie will need a pen that's roughly 4ft by 4ft...not exactly convenient for us apartment dwellers.

Glad to hear everyone is better! :D I am stuck on the escape proof ramp part as well. I am thinking of looking at a plumbing supply company for a big pipe to make the crawl way up to the basking area, but I am concerned they will outgrow it quickly. Of course they are in a 75 gallon right now, so I know I will be getting a second tank sooner or later. I really hope one is a boy! I do plan to build a huge indoor pond in the future, but we're talking 10-15 years in the future!

Another suggestion on the plastic crate would be to cut out one side of it so they would also have a cave area to go into and it opens up more space in the tank. I did that on ours and the turtle loves going into her turtle cave as well as sit on top of it.

Good to know that now before I ventured into anything. I'd have to trade out my coffee table for a boxie pen. :)
