Muirner,
Hi, the large one is about 6 inches and the small one 3 inches. I totatly agree with you on the tank size. I just picked them up from a lovely couple saturday. They came with the tank and everything. It is a 25 gallon tank, and from what I have read on here, at their current size I need about a 90 gallon. I have priced a new tank, and am looking at a 90 or another 125 for them. I would put them in my large tropical tank, but then I dont think I would have any fish left.

lol, you probably wouldnt!!! with that 25 gal tank, put maybe 10 gal of water or so in there for now, maybe more if your dock is movable (like the zoo meds one).

When you go to look for your new tank, check out craigslist.com or freecycle.com also ebay (sort for local listings) will work wonders.

I took my time and looked, picked up a 55 gal with stand for 75$... and i found a 200Gal with stand for 200$... not bad prices if you ask me... (both of those were craigslist)

Well, once they are at least 4 inches long (shell length, head to tail) then you can determine their gender.
Females have short claws and their cloaca is closer to the base of the tail, whereas males have long claws. If you've got a male, you generally don't need to ask "how long are the nails?" xD
If you do have a female, you'll want to do a forum search for "eggs" or "nesting", as females will lay eggs with or without a male present. You'll want to recognise the signs so you can get her to a nesting area :)
