Well she's six years old... but she's small since she had to live in a small tank... sadly but true... here those things are expensive and as I told before there's no good education and no control of sellings... actually as a graduation gift I ask for a new tank... is bigger LOT bigger than where she is now... by the way I need ideas for its set up... I have the tank, rooof, and a filter, ground and some other stones... I need Ideas

What are you feeding her? because Red ear sliders dont stay small because of a tank theyre in,they stay small because of lack of nutrition i think.your turtles a cutie by the way!

Unlike fish, turts continue to grow, regardless of tank size. Before I found this website, my RES grew from 7" to 11" in her tiny 55-gal tank. The good thing is that I was able to fill the tank all the way up to the top since my basking area was on TOP of the tank. But it was still too small for a full-grown adult RES, and just in the last 2 months, I finally received my new custom 90-gal tank for Sheba & she LOVES it. I definitely noticed a difference in her attitude right away. She no longer wants to get out of the tank all the time & is very content when she is in there, basking all day long & just hanging out.

Are you getting a heater for the tank too? You want to make sure the tank water is kept around 76-80 degrees for a RES. The submersible glass heaters aren't expensive (only around $20) and you can get a stick-on thermometer for less than $2. Although, I just noticed where you are from, and maybe you might not need a heater in Costa Rica! LOL! Hope you guys are having good weather there! I'm from Michigan & it has been snowing all day today & is very cold out (20 degrees F).

Hello... I see, but how big do they grow up? She's six and her size is like 12cmx10cm. About the heater, my country is a very hot place... and she will be out door at a second floor... so I dont know if I shoul set one... another thing some guy at the store recommended me to add some fish, small one but Im not sure... what do u think?

If she is going to be in a tank outdoor,i think you have to worry about the water getting TOO warm but im not exactly sure because my turtles are in my room.Males grow to be 10 inches max and females grow to be 12 inches max which require a 120 gallon tank.You can offer guppies,feeder fishes,even ghos shrimp but that shouldnt be the only thing they eat.By the way what is the water temperature of your tank? And you should fill your tank up with more water,your turtle will be much more happier like that.

Well, at least get a thermometer to check the water temp. so you can make sure it is at least 75 degrees, all year round.

You can add some fish, but not goldfish because those aren't very nutritious. I don't feed a lot of live fish to my turtle because it can get a bit expensive. But you can feed her tetra reptomin foodsticks & many different kinds of vegetables, like romaine lettuce. On this website, they have a section about feeding. I found this to be very helpful:

And if you click on some of the other topics on the top of that webpage, you can find out even more great information! Some people on this board even keep their turtles outside all year & make outdoor ponds for them (sounds like this is something you can do in Costa Rica too! You are so lucky!).

Beautiful turtle you've got there. 75 degrees fahrenheit is 24 celsius, I think. I can't wait to see the pictures of your new larger setup.

Ohhhh thank you . Ohhhh I definitely dont need an extra help with temp... our average temperature is 22-26 ºC. But I have the termometer. I will set it maybe saturday. My girl will be happy. Do u think she need more food I see it.. fine... . She hasnt lay eggs... as I read you need like 120 gall for it...

Yes, they will lay eggs without a male. And, they will lay eggs even if their tank is not large enough. You need to find a way to make a nesting area for her. Look through the photo gallery for ideas - there are some nice set ups for nesting which can cost very little. But it is important to provide a nesting area since she can retain the eggs and become very ill (puede conservar los huevos y enfermarse).

Nice... that's I what I need suggestions for its place... they start to lay eggs when they're 5 or 6... (adult age) so I think I'm on time.. I dont wanna see her enferma
