Yay! I sat down with Slowpoke tonight and managed to get some neat shots! He's a pretty interesting looking turtle, as you will see. We still don't know if we'll change his name, or what to. He's definitely less of a slowpoke now that his temp's up a bit. Still not as active as Napoleon but noticeably more alert.

First off, a picture that shows a bit how chubby he is around his legs:

This one shows his beak, I'm not sure what to make of it but it looks different than Napoleon's, almost like there's several layers of shell above where the actual pigment is.

This is the crack on the underside of his shell. I'm going to ask the vet about it but if you have any input I'd like to hear it, as shell breaks are not something I have experience with. It looks to be pretty old and doesn't seem to cause him any discomfort.

These next two are really neat, he has lots and lots of extra scutes, including an entire extra row down his back!

Look how beautiful his markings are!

And just because I'm excited, here's the tank I went to look at tonight! It's a 45 gallon...big upgrade from the 10 gallon he's been in for 7 years!

Anyway, feel free to comment and let me know if you notice anything I should ask the vet about!

I love his stripes! And I agree, he's lucky guy. You could name him Lucky!

You should name him Dynamite, the way you would have Napoleon Dynamite!! LOL

What gorgeous markings he has on his head & nice muscular arms! :)

Are you sure he is 100% RES? It almost looks like he is a mixture between RES & some other breed. Not an issue, just curious! ;)

I really have no big concerns, but I would make sure to gently clean off the small bits of algae on his shell.

Looking forward to seeing his tank when you get it all set up! :)

He's actually a western painted! He might be some kind of mix but that's what he looks closest to. The algae's coming off as soon as I can get to the store and buy a clean toothbrush for him :)

Love the extra scutes. He's going to really look good after a good shedding. :)

I agree :) He has many spots that appear ready to shed, so I'm hoping that the higher temps and better basking bulb will do the trick. I'm thrilled with even the little progress he's made so far; he's already more alert, which I attribute to getting warmed up. He's also devoured all the foods I've offered him, which so far has been mainly green leaf lettuce along with a few shreds of carrots, a bit of papaya and a couple of his pellets, plus he likes the cuttlebone! I can't wait to get him all healthy and in his big tank with the right lighting and temps and food and watch him be happy.

Are those rocks bigger than his head? Is that gravel? I can't really tell... but he is BEAUTIFUL!

That picture was taken when we went to see the tank before buying it, as the guy had it set up in his basement. He's throwing out the gravel before we pick it up.
