Sneaked up on basking RES's

He he, I caught two of my RES's basking on top of each other before leaving for the Reptile show today. The pic is not good cause I took it from a distance so as not to spook them.

Hey awesome picture.I can never get a pic of my turtles basking becuase whenever they here someone coming in my room they dive in the water before I even get to see them.

I don't understand why most people's turts make such a fuss over letting people see them basking. Mine don't realy care. Than again, they might always fall asleep, but still. They just simply aren't shy towords me. (But, than again, maybe that's because I am almost always near them, and are their caretaker, so they really, really know me, lol.)

My smaller male doesn't mind me coming up to the tank while he basks, but the other two do. I'm not surprised though since it is a very strong instinct for them to seek cover underwater at the slightest sign of an approaching predator. Out in the middle of a pond, basking on a log or rock, they can see everything around them for quite a distance and will disappear like a rocket if anything comes within 20 or 30 yards. I used to try to sneak up on turtles as a kid (and I still do sometimes!) and it's not easy. They have a very strong flight instinct.
