Hello marisa, right now we have a 100w uva light, we need to get a uva/uvb as soon as we goto a diffrent pet store that has them.




Here's one I took a couple of weeks ago to give you an idea of the size, I will get the measuring tape out and get the exact length and post it this eveing. Its amazing how much they can grow in just a month! They eat all the time, I think they would eat 10 times a day If we let them, but they get fed once a day, every time we walk by the tank, the bigger res "beg" and its hard to walk away sometimes!

If the weather/temps are good, you could take them outside for a few hours several times a week until you get the UVB light. Don't get one that gives a lower output--get at least a 5% one.

Be strong about not overfeeding--you can give them plant matter if they've eaten and still beg.

Thats what we have been wanting to get, what kind of plants do you get to put in the tank that they can eat? Wal-mart has several aquatic plants but I don't know what kind to get. I don't want them to eat something that makes them sick. Thanks

The Wal-mart near you has live aquatic plants? Nice--I can only get plastic ones at the Wal-mart near me...Most turtles like anachris, other popular plants are water hyacinth, water lettuce, duckweed. The plants that are sold for aquariums and fish should also be safe for turtles.

soo cute. that is alot of turtles! i have one and i dont think i could handle another one.

Scoot loves being outside, so its worth a try. Plus you get to see them do cute stuff like burrow in grass.

LOL SOO TRUE. I AM AFRAID TO LET MY TURTLE OUTSIDE THOUGH. I LET MY OTHER TURTLE OUTSIDE AND FOUND HER 3 MONTHS LATER DEAD IN A WHOLE DIFFERENT PART OF THE YARD REALLY FAR AWAY FROM WERE I LOST HER.

If they're not in a container like a wading pool, though, it would be hard to keep track of 8 of them (for me it would be impossible).

I suppose you could ask trusted friends/relatives to do that, but just speaking for me, I don't know of anyone who would be as vigilant as I would be (it's different since they're mine; no one gets the kick out of them that I do here). Plus, I wouldn't want to saddle anyone with the responsibility just in case something happened.

I suppose you could rotate days, taking some of them out on one day and some another. I'd still want them in a container. They're just so easy to lose...

We do let them bask outside when its sunny, But lately it has rained every day for over a week in tn. It seems to really rain when im off work! Humm!

Here's 3 of ours in the "kiddie" pool soakin up the rays. Also, we keep chicken wire over the top of the pool. That makes us feel a lot better leaving them alone in there privacy and no predetors will get our baby's!

Here's a pic of our tank. I can see 5 of them in this pic. We use to have a 10 gal tank and 5 res, then we got a 55 gal tank and then we got 3 more res! oops!
